Chicanes 2006; Traffic Calming on Lind &
Kleindale Near Campbell
March 12, 2006
At our last neighborhood meeting it was agreed to find out if RHW would
be allowed to have chicanes installed on Lind & Kleindale near
Campbell Avenue. The primary purpose of chicanes would be to slow
down traffic as it enters our neighborhood. The secondary
purpose, if possible, would be to discourage cut-through traffic.
I contacted the City of Tucson and was informed that chicanes would be
allowed if a sufficient number of neighbors signed a petition to that
effect. The traffic engineer at the city made some
recommendations for what would be most effective.
Our roads are X feet wide. We must leave a lane that is Y feet
wide for each direction of traffic.
Here is a graphic provided by the city showing both an overhead view
and a driver's-eye view of chicanes. This isn't a final design --
it's just an example of the layout.

Here is a map showing which homes must be surveyed for the petition
(the properties in yellow). The chicanes would primarily affect
those on the east and north sides of the neighborhood, but we're still
required to petition everybody. We need signatures from 60% of
the properties in order to proceed.

- Verify measurements, scale, minimum lane sizes with city.
- Verify chicane placement with city. Presumably they would
be placed near where the map shows colors changing from yellow to gray.
- Verify who
pays. I believe the neighbors must pay
- Get volunteers to seek signatures. It may be helpful to
note who declines to sign so we don't bother those folks twice.
